Bisphosphonate Drugs

Osteoporosis refers to the loss of bone mineral density (BMD) experienced by post-menopausal women.  Bisphosphonate drugs, such as  Actonel®, Atelvia®, Boniva®, Fosamax®, and Reclast®, are marketed for their ability to treat and prevent this condition.

However, these medications have not been tested for long-term use can cause serious injuries, including atypical bone fractures and osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ).  Furthermore, the drugs are often prescribed to women who have suffered only minimal bone loss, now called “osteopenia”.  This condition does not require medical intervention.

Ask your doctor about all risks and side effects before taking any of these medications.  If you believe you have suffered injury as a result of taking them, contact us for a free case evaluation.
